OKO Internship Program
OKO invites young lawyers from abroad who are knowledgeable in International Criminal Law and Human Rights Law to apply for the internship program at OKO.
Each intern will work in one of four OKO “Defense Support Teams” (DST). Their supervisor will be a lawyer from BiH, and they will work alongside trainees. This experience allows young lawyers from abroad to gain practical experience in defense preparation in ongoing war crimes cases, as well as to apply their practice.
OKO interns will also have the opportunity and ability to work with their direct supervising lawyer to prepare original legal papers. Interns are given the opportunity to publish their work in the OKO Reporter and some international legal journals. We require each intern to carefully consider a short research proposal, which is also requested in the application form. We encourage candidates to demonstrate their knowledge of international humanitarian law, international criminal law, or human rights by submitting proposals that are relevant both to legal education and the practical work of the Department.
The selection of candidates will be based on the following criteria:
Basic Conditions
Ability to engage for a minimum period of 6 months
Postgraduate specialization in law
Studies in international criminal law or human rights law
Exceptional legal research skills
Experience working in a law office
Working knowledge of English
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision
Ability to work under pressure
Preferred Experience
Eligibility to practice law in your country
Experience in court proceedings
Previous international experience in criminal defense
Given the nature of the work, OKO is able to offer an internship program for a period not shorter than six months.
Each intern will receive a monthly stipend of approximately 400 EUR and health insurance for the duration of the internship program.
